Public Consultation on Future Fuel Mix for Electricity Generation

The Government launched on 19 March 2014 a 3-month public consultation on the "Future Fuel Mix for Electricity Generation in Hong Kong". The consultation document can be downloaded from the Environment Bureau's website (http://www.enb.gov.hk/en/resources_publications/policy_consultation/electricity_generation.html). In this public consultation document, the Government have provided an analysis of two fuel mix options for public consultation. The first option is "grid purchase" which proposing to import electricity through purchase from the Mainland power grid. The second option is "local generation" which proposing to use more natural gas for local generation. Some possible fuel mix ratios have been proposed under these two fuel mix options for planning the necessary infrastructure. The future fuel mix bring significant impact to our society and infrastructure planning. The Energy Institutes (Hong Kong Branch) is preparing a paper to response to the consultation. Your views and comments is ultimate important for us to draft this document. You are invited to send your comments by replying to this mail to us on or before 23 April 2014. We will consolidate our members? view and prepare the deck to Government. In addition, a technical forum aims to brief the detail of this consultation document and set the interactive communication platform for discussion will be organised with the detail as follow.
